Recommendation:

Consult this page periodically for information regarding bugs, and to find updated Mile Manager supporting files, which will be made available for free download.

Registered users will be notified by email or surface mail if anything important is discovered, but we still recommend that you stop by our site every once in a while, in case we have updated files for you to download, or enhancements or bug reports to announce.

Known Bugs or Issues

UPDATE, fix available: Issue: 'Cannot Create Database' -- incorrect report that there is isufficient free disk space, when a large hard drive is known to have ample space available.

This error crops up in newer systems, often running Windows XP, and having very roomy hard drives. It happens when you try to create a new database, and you are prevented from creating the database because the program incorrectly concludes that there is not enough space to do so.

RESOLUTION:Patch 301 is now available for those who are experiencing this error, and who are comfortable enough with copying and renaming files on their system to make a simple change. Otherwise, you will need to uninstall the application (use the Windows Add/Remove Programs applet in control panel to do so), download the full installation packet once again, and fully reinstall the application. (NOTE: if you do this and are a registered user, please write down your registration information, available from the "Help | About" box on the application's main menu, before you uninstall the old copy of Mile Manager.)

UPDATE, fix available: Issue: Excel Export Error Trapping: Unique Worksheet Names Needed in a Workbook

When exporting to Excel, if you try to add two worksheets to a given workbook, and attempt to give both worksheets the same name, an error will occur. The error will be trapped within Mile Manager, which will cause the Mile Manager application to be closed down. The rest of the system, including Excel, will continue to run unchanged.

TYPICAL SCENARIO: this error might happen to occur when you are repeatedly sending the same data to Excel, perhaps by just "clicking-through" the Excel export dialog box. KEY POINT: the dialog box will sometimes supply the same default name, two times in a row, for a new worksheet (e.g. name of "Trips"), when you are still in the same part of the Mile Manager application (e.g. still in a Trip List Window). Recall that Excel requires unique worksheet names within any single workbook.

This error IS detected and trapped by Mile Manager code, and you will get a dialog asking you to choose a different worksheet name. Unfortunately, however, Mile Manager will still then close itself down, after you supply this different name.

RESOLUTION: For those who have already downloaded and installed the application, and who are comfortable copying a few files around on their system, they can apply patch 301.

Otherwise, your only alternative if this error bothers you (and you can't simply enforce upon yourself the rule of always checking your new worksheet names for redundancy before completing an Excel export), is to uninstall the application (use the Windows Add/Remove Programs applet in control panel to do so), download a full installation packet, and then fully reinstall the application using the setup program provided in the downloaded ZIP file. (NOTE: if you do this and are a registered user, please write down your registration information, available from the "Help | About" box on the application's main menu, before you uninstall the old copy of Mile Manager.)

Beyond this, if you do get stuck in the Excel error scenario and the application shuts itself down, the situation is usually harmless; just relaunch Mile Manager and go back to where you were and continue working. NOTE: again, this is only likely to happen when adding NEW sheets to a workbook.

ISSUE: Extra Pages when Printing Reports

Some of the reports will have an extra blank page printed at the end of the report. There is no option to switch this off at the present time. The issue is caused by printer and report driver code that sometimes does not predict the last page's bottom margin boundary, and prints extra whitespace resulting in a new page. No resolution at the present time.

Patch 301

A self-extracting patch kit is availble for download by clicking here. This download contains a file README.TXT, which you should read, and a replacement file, MILEMGR.EXE, which is the patch. NOTE: this file is only for those who already have installed the application using a complete standard installation package. The file will not run all by itself.

(If you do need a full installation package, click here , but if you are comfortable installing the patch, it is the recommended course, both because it is 1/16 the download size (and download time), and because it is always a good idea to spare your system unnecessary uninstall and install cycles, if they are not completely necessary.)

Instructions for using the patch are included in the README.TXT file just mentioned, but briefly, you will need to follow these steps:

1) Download the self-extracting file PATCH301.EXE by clicking here

2) After download, double-click the file, PATCH301.EXE to self-extract the files ReadMe.TXT and MILEMGR.EXE to a temp directory

3) Use your Windows "Find/Files or Folders" utility to locate the old version of MileMgr.EXE and rename it to something else, like MILEMGRBROKE.EXE

4) Copy the new MILEMGR.EXE to the location previously occupied by the older version.

That should do the trick. (Again, read the file README.TXT that is self-extracted in step 2, above, for a description of the same procedure.)

No other issues have been reported.

Return here periodically, as any reported bugs will be noted here, along with their fixes, when applicable.
