Overview

Mile Manager provides multiple ways to enter, arrange, retrieve, total, and create billing and other reports, based on your trip records.

Each trip record describes an individual travel event.  Information including origin, destination, date(s) and time(s) of travel, vehicle used, and the Usage Category to which the trip is linked, is stored with each trip record in the application's "Trips Cabinet."

Both business and casual users can exploit the flexibility of trip record keeping, in Mile Manager, and create numerous styles of trip reports, for personal or professional use.  Trips and Usage Categories are designed to work together, whether to create highly focused reports suitable for time and mileage billing (see billing reports), or simply to organize one's own vehicular travel episodes more informally, according to custom-designed vehicular usage categories.

Trip records are your primary means of logging and calculating billable time and mileage charges for individual billable episodes, and creating client and other billing reports, if you choose to do so.  In conjunction with suitably defined Usage Categories, your appropriate use of trip record keeping can accomplish a great deal of reimbursible mileage and time-related expense tracking, and can even be an important component of a small client billing system.

Entering new trip records into your database is easy.  The application "remembers" previously visited clients and locations, and the new trip entry template provides several quick entry shortcuts, including name and location pattern matching, to help you enter new trip records with a minimum of fuss and a maximum of convenience. Also, Mile Manager invisibly links each  new trip record to data in other Mile Manager cabinets, including the application's "Vehicles Cabinet," the "Usage Categories Cabinet," and the"Clients and Locations Cabinet."  Thus, you may enter, retrieve and organize your trip records from those other cabinets, as well as from the Trips Cabinet itself.

When you visit the Vehicles Cabinet, you will find each of your trip records filed under the vehicle used in the trip, and will note that your trip data has a presence in each vehicle's summary and usage statistics. (See the Vehicles Page for more.)

When you visit the Usage Categories Cabinet, you will find each of your trip records filed under its linked usage category, and will note that the proper trip data has a presence in the activity and summary statistics, for each of your usage categories.
